AZ United defender/forward Uzo out for the year with broken leg

Firebird Rising learned defender/forward Uchenna Uzo suffered a broken leg in practice Thursday morning and had surgery later in the afternoon and will be out for the remainder of the season.

Uzo, in his first year with the club, played in 23 matches this season, starting in 17 of those matches. While Uzo did not score any points during the season, he did attempt 14 shots, thee of which were on goal, committed 21 fouls and had one yellow card issued.

Uzo was transitioning from a defender role to a role as a substitute on top for the last month, and began playing as a forward in a July 16 match at home against Seattle Sounders 2. He played 105 minutes as a substitute in those six contests.

Uzo was a stalwart on the back line. The team had allowed 23 goals in the 17 matches in which he started, and the team allowed 12 goals in the seven matches in which he did not play on the backline.
