It’s official. Nearly three months after Arizona United SC’s majority ownership changed hands, and two and a half years after the club’s founding, its most visible symbols have been replaced.
At a fan-focused event in Scottsdale this afternoon, club leadership announced that it will now be known as Phoenix Rising Football Club, and revealed a new crest and color combination.
Drawing on the familiar visual associated with the state capital’s namesake (mythological) bird, Phoenix Rising also hearkens to an early supporter movement aimed at bringing Major League Soccer to the Valley of the Sun.
Perhaps even more exciting to existing fans and investors alike, the club announced plans to play its 2017 USL season at a yet-unnamed 15.8-acre stadium complex at McClintock Rd and Loop 202. Given the team’s difficulty attracting fans to Peoria Sports Complex in 2014 and ’16, this excellent location is sure to be a central piece in ticket marketing for the foreseeable future.
Details will follow as they become available.
