On the heels of the regular season schedule being released, Phoenix Rising FC have announced their 2017 preseason schedule. The team will begin a two-week training camp in Casa Grande on Saturday, February 18 and will hit the pitch just one week later on February 25 for their first game.
That game will see PRFC on the road in San Diego to take on Albion SC Pros, a National Premier Soccer League club. Local fans will get their first chance to see Phoenix Rising in action one week later (March 4) when the club plays their first of two games against Grand Canyon University. Both games with GCU will be open to the public.
The following week will see a return trip to California for match-ups against Cal State Fullerton (March 9) and Orange County SC (March 10).
The final preseason game is back in Arizona on March 17, once again against Grand Canyon. That will leave just a week before PRFC kicks-off its 2017 USL season March 25 against Toronto FC II in the first ever meeting between the two clubs.
The 2017 preseason has a much softer feel than in 2016, which saw then-Arizona United invited to the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson to face fellow USL side Swope Park Rangers, hated rival FC Tucson and the Colorado Rapids from Major League Soccer.
For his part, head coach Frank Yallop sounds ready to get on the pitch:
“We’ve had so much exciting news around the club recently, but we’re just ready to hit the pitch and play soccer. We’ll have two weeks of training plus five matches, and I think we’ll be prepared to have a successful 2017 campaign.”
