If you’re not reading the Pioneer Press, you may have missed that Didier Drogba, the legendary Ivorian striker, is linked with a move to Phoenix Rising FC.
The 39-year-old played with Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer after an illustrious career in Europe during which time he played with current Rising winger Shaun Wright-Phillips at Chelsea.
There is currently no other context for such a move, but I think we can agree that at the very least, the exposure for Phoenix Rising and the United Soccer League is not – and would not be, should the move come to fruition – a bad thing at all. What remains to be seen is how not one, not two, but three former top-tier soccer stars would fit into a Phoenix squad that desperately wishes to reach the USL Playoffs in this, its fourth year of existence.
