Last Friday, Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper Josh Cohen finally got his first clean sheet, and was rewarded with a “Team of the Week” honor for his effort. PRFC was one of the final two USL Teams in the 2017 campaign to blank an opponent.
Cohen came up with six saves, and prevented one of the Western Conference’s most prolific offenses from getting a ball to the back of the net. Cohen’s diving save on a powerful curling shot from the foot of Reno midfielder Darwin Espinal also got him a nomination for “Save of the Week.” Supporters can vote for Cohen’s save on the USL Website.
Reno 1868 has been on quite a tear since they last met Rising FC in Scottsdale on May 6. Arriving winless, Reno posted their first franchise victory, scoring four on Cohen. Since that date, they are 6-1-1, losing only to league leader Real Monarchs SLC.
Cohen, a 24-year-old from Mountain View, California, made his debut in 2015 with the Burlingame Dragons before appearing with Orange County Soccer Club (then Orange County Blues). Cohen returns to Orange County on July 8 in Rising FC’s first trip to the newly christened Great Park in Irvine, CA.
