Phoenix Rising FC announced Thursday they have added midfielder Sam Hamilton on loan from the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer.

A first-round selection of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, Hamilton appeared in three MLS matches for the Rapids. Hamilton made his debut as a substitute on May 17 against the Chicago Fire, and played 27 minutes in that match. He made his first start three days later against the Philadelphia Union and appeared in a July 1 match against the Houston Dynamo. Hamilton also made two appearances for the Rapids in US Open Cup play.

A native of Evergreen, Colo., Hamilton helped Denver University to the school’s second straight unbeaten season in 2016 and an appearance in the College Cup. He appeared in 83 matches for Denver, which ranks first in school history for appearances.

Colorado retains the right to recall Hamilton from Phoenix Rising at any point during the remainder of the season.
