NY Red Bulls score 2 late goals to top Phoenix Rising FC to open Mobile Mini Sun Cup

Phoenix Rising FC opened up play in the 2018 Mobile Mini Sun Cup with a 3-2 loss to MLS side New York Red Bulls in front of 6,620 fans at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex Saturday night.

The scoring opened in the seventh minute when Phoenix Rising’s Gladson Awako attempted a cross, but Red Bulls defender Aurélien Collin deflected the cross over the head over goalkeeper Luis Robles into the back of the net for a 1-0 Phoenix Rising lead.

The Red Bulls would counter when Kemar Lawrence crossed the ball to Alex Muyl, who headed it past Zac Lubin to tie the game at 1-1.

Phoenix Rising would take a 2-1 lead in the 71st minute when Devin Vega would send a low ball to Kevaughn Frater who slotted it home past Robles.

The Red Bulls would score two goals in stoppage time. Vincent Bezecourt scored just after the 90th minute hit, and then Fidel Escobar scored on a free kick that ended up being the final kick of the match.

Phoenix Rising continues play in the Mobile Mini Sun Cup Wednesday night against the Colorado Rapids. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
